The American Institute of CPAs has opened the nomination period for one of its most prestigious awards. The Outstanding Young CPA Award nomination period is open through Dec. 15.
The annual award, in its 11th year, recognizes early-career CPAs under the age of 41 who personify a commitment to the profession as demonstrated through successful practices, involvement in and contributions to the interest of the accounting profession.
“The recipients of the AICPA Outstanding Young CPA Award are remarkable young professionals who help drive the profession forward. Their ideas and out-of-the-box tactics are exactly what we want to see in the accounting and finance profession,” said Elizabeth Burkhalter, the Senior Manager of Young Member initiatives on the Diversity and Inclusion team.
The AICPA created this award to honor the legacy of Maximo Mukelabai, a member of the inaugural class of the AICPA Leadership Academy and the youngest chair of the North Carolina Association of CPAs Board of Directors. Tragically, his life was cut short at age 36.
The eligibility criteria to apply for the Outstanding Young CPA Award includes being a:
licensed CPA between the ages of 22 and 40 and
regular member of the AICPA.
To be considered for the award, candidates must apply and detail their volunteer history, along with professional reference forms from peers, employers and state CPA societies. It is critical for the candidate to be a role model within the profession, one who encourages students to pursue an accounting career. They also should be an active member of their community through their volunteer efforts to advance the accounting profession and improve their communities. A task force of peers, leveraged from the Young Member Leadership Committee, will review all qualified nominations to determine the winners.
The AICPA is committed to continuing to drive a robust pipeline of professionals. Through its partnership with The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants through the Association of International Certified Professional Accountants, the AICPA is better positioned to help accounting and finance professionals of today and tomorrow develop their skills.
